They lack self confidence, self esteem, and are overly shy and withdrawn around people.

They are hyper intelligent but for some reason find it hard to focus during school and other activities.

They are being bullied at school but wont talk about it and you don’t know what to do.

If you answered yes to any of the above you have found the right place.

our main goal in the kids classes is to use discipline and fun along with jiu jitsu to improve memory, focus and confidence through self control and self belief.

“Jiu-Jitsu is for the protection of the individual, the older man, the weak, the child, the lady, and the young woman, or anyone who doesn’t have the physical attributes to defend themselves.”

FAQ kids jiujitsu

Why should my kid do Brazilian Jiu Jitsu instead of Karate or Taekwondo?

Firstly we don’t bash any other martial arts, all have incredible benefits for children. What separates jiu jitsu from others though is its practicality. There is no other martial art as effective in real world scenarios for self defense and anti bullying. Jiu Jitsu is designed for a smaller weaker adult or child to have success defending themselves in the real world. Think about your typical bully situation, it’s normally a bigger kid picking on a smaller one. Jiu Jitsu has been specifically created to allow smaller people to defeat larger opponents without having to throw a single punch or kick.

Is Brazilian jiu jitsu dangerous for my child?

No more dangerous than playing soccer, rugby or cricket. Rest assured your kids won’t be in here kicking and punching other students. The beautiful part about jiu jitsu is you will never need to throw a punch or kick for it to be effective. We teach kids how to defend themselves without getting hurt or hurting anyone in a very safe and controlled environment. So rest assured your child will be well looked after.

What will my child need in order to get started?

To get started all they will need is a t-shirt and shorts without pockets. After a few lessons if they enjoy the classes we would like all children to invest in a gi, which is a traditional suit specifically made for jiu jitsu similar to those used in karate. Our team will be able to assist you with purchase once you are ready.

Does my child need any experience?

No, experience is not required.

My Child is very anti-social, will classes help them socialize more?

Yes it will. Training jiu jitsu forces kids into social situations with other kids they might not normally tend to engage with, this helps them develop socialization skills and combat any  shyness they might be struggling with.

My Child is aggressive at home, will the training help improve this or make it worse?

Training jiu jitsu will 100% improve your child’s aggression, as mentioned prior the training itself is an amazing outlet for your child to channel his/her anger in a more positive fashion, all while instilling more self respect and respect for others around you.

MY child is being bullied. Can jiu jitsu help then get over this fear?

Yes it can and it will. Learning jiu jitsu will empower them to be able to stand up for themselves and build the confidence to do so. Jiu Jitsu is very real and highly effective in real world scenarios, especially when it comes to bullies.

My Child is already a bully, I don't want to make it worse. Will the training help better him/her or make them worse?

Training jiu jitsu will not make them worse, in fact quite the opposite. You can expect your child to learn self respect, respect for others and self control. The act of training itself is a fantastic outlet for kids with aggressive tendencies to put that energy into more positive things. However this being said unfortunately it’s not always the case and we do have a rule that we won’t allow kids to train if we hear of them using the skills we teach to bully people. We teach self defense as a last resort only and expect that from each and every student on our roster.

I don't want my child to become aggressive, wont training make him get into more fights?

To put it simply, NO. Kids find classes a great way to relieve tension, stress, and anger. This in turn actually makes them less inclined to get into fights. The training also instills more respect and care for others. While we do teach them to be tough and be able to defend themselves, all our teaching is for self defense situations only and only to be used as a last resort, and not as a weapon to attack.
