John has been dedicated to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu since 2014 and is a proud brown belt under Coach Gary Joshua of GFT. A competitive athlete since 2015, he has excelled at all belt ranks, earning medals in prestigious national and international events such as UAEJJF, ADCC, Alpha Grappling, SAGA Destiny, Siam Cup, and the Thailand Open Jiu-Jitsu Grand Prix.

In 2018, as a blue belt, John made history by becoming only the second South African to claim gold at the Abu Dhabi World Pro Jiu-Jitsu Championship. In 2024, he cemented his legacy by winning gold again at the Abu Dhabi World pro Jiu-jitsu Championship, a testament to his dedication, skill, and relentless pursuit of excellence.

As a passionate coach, John shares the art of Jiu-Jitsu with clarity and professionalism. His technical expertise and commitment to continuous improvement inspire students to reach their full potential, both on and off the mats.
