John has been training Brazilian Jiu-jitsu since 2014, and is a brown belt under coach Gary Joshua of GFT. He has been a competive athlete since 2015, having competed at all his belt ranks, taking medals at many national and international competitions like UAEJJF, ADCC, Alpha Grappling, SAGA Destiny, Siam Cup and the Thailand Open Ju-jitsu Grand Prix.

In 2018 as a blue belt John became only the second person in South Africa to Medal gold at the ABU DHABI WORLD PRO JIU-JITSU CHAMPIONSHIP event.

He is a passionate coach who delivers the technical knowledge of the art in a concise and professional manner, always striving for perfection and improvement.
